| Scope and Content Note: | On April 11, 1967, the President traveled to Punta del Este, Uruguay, thebirthplace of the Alliance for Progress, to attend a summit of Latin AmericanChiefs of State and discuss ways to strengthen the Alliance. On the firstafternoon of the trip Johnson met individually with the Presidents of Colombia,Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, and the Prime Minister of Trinidad andTobago. He had dinner with leaders from Central America including the Presidentsof Costa Rica, Honduras, and Guatemala; the President-elect of El Salvador; andthe Foreign Minister of Nicaragua. In the evening he met with the President ofVenezuela, although it is not recorded in the Diary. |
