Scope and Content Note The White House Photograph Collection is the work of three photographers:Abbie Rowe of the National Park Service, Robert Knudsen, Office of the NavalAide to the President, and Cecil Stoughton, Office to the Military Aide to thePresident. Taken together, the over 31,000 photographs in this collectioncomprise an almost day to day coverage of President Kennedy's meetings and otheractivities at the White House and in Washington, DC, his domestic and foreigntrips, vacation weekends to Hyannisport, Newport, and Palm Beach, members of hisfamily, and events that occurred during his administration. Jacqueline Kennedy'schanges to the White House and some of her activities are documented as well.Each photographer maintained his own system for filing his work, and their fileshave been largely kept intact by the Kennedy Library staff.Unless noted otherwise President Kennedy is the central subject in thephotographs of the events, ceremonies, meetings, visits or trips.
